Concept Development

We have decided on these choices for our music video as we feel they would convey our analysis of the storyline of the song we chose, the feel of the song, our genre and be a good creative basis for a star image. For example, we thought the song would be about a break-up but we put a spin on it by making the video about her remembering when she was happy. This is so the visuals relate to the song but are not cliche or mainstream. As the song is quite slow it gives a sad feel and to convey this we have decided to use black and white when she is on her own and split screen to show they are separate and distant yet she still feels close to him. Due to our genre being indie pop, we have stuck with the conventional costume as it clearly conveys our genre and fits with our star image and the feel of the song.

Roles

I have been assigned the roles of editor and camera as they are my strong points of framing the camera and trying different things to be create and I like to put it together in editing and also experiment with different effects or ways to show the footage in creative ways.

Eden has been assigned the role of being in charge of mise en scene as she is strong in thinking about the components of a shot in order to get the best effect from the shot.

Sophie has been assigned the roles of lighting and director as she has a good understanding of how the lighting creates different moods and we can use that to create a good piece, she is also very good at organisation which will mean everyone will know what they're doing and everything will be organised so no time is wasted.

Ciara is the performer as she looks like an indie pop artist that would suit the narrative of the video we are trying to convey and that she suits the voice of the song.

Star Image

Our artist's star image is to be stylish in the way they dress and unique to other people or artists so they stand out. For example, their costumes will consist of flannel shirts, graphic tees, leather jackets, bomber jackets, beanies, headphones, dark accessories, converse trainers, boots in order to give an indie pop generalisation of our star image.

They will also act confidently and free to promote positive messages to the audience which will mainly be teenage/young adult females. For example, although they are sad when they are alone, they are still strong and confident by remembering when they were happy.

"Shark" Lyrics Analysis and Video Ideas

These ideas follow Goodwin's theory in term of amplification because the imagery is not literally what the lyrics say, so is not illustration, and amplifies what we think the song is about, as the lyrics can be interpreted in different ways. However, the images are not completely unrelated to the lyrics, therefore, it cannot be a disjuncture music video.
The overall feel from these lyrics is that the artist is going through some mind of pain, it is unknown if it is emotional or physical, and feels alone so has an overall feel of being sad, especially as the tempo of the song is quite slow.

The Song We Chose - "Shark" - Oh Wonder

We have chosen this song because it is of the indie pop genre and has a British artist. It also has lyrics that we can make a vague narrative from for our music video. We came up with some ideas from this:

-A vague love story of a girl going to places she used to go with her boyfriend after they broke up and remembering their memories
-Lots of cutaways of various shots of different locations for an atmosphere
- Possible aerial shots by a drone for establishing and setting the mood
