Low Budget Music Videos

Just Got Paid

This is a low budget music video by students but is made to look as if it has a high production budget due to elements of the product such as editing, mise en scene, camerawork.

Editing:

- Short takes are used as it cuts across the different locations. This makes the video look higher in budget as the cuts are clean and the product runs smoothly as a result.

- Cross cutting is used when each member has a solo and the audience can see them singing their solo in the different locations. This makes the video look higher in budget as it is typical in a professional music video with a band to do this when they have a solo.

Mise en scene:

  • Setting
- The expensive house they used to film in makes the video look as if it had a high budget as it looks like it would be a lot of money to hire a location such as that and only high budgets can afford it.

  • Lighting
- The first location uses a dark room and four lights in the background to light the shot which makes the video look more high budget as it is a professional way of lighting up a shot in a music video.

  •  Costume
- The group wears suits during the video which makes it look higher in budget as suits are usually expensive so shows they must have a higher budget.

Camerawork:

 - Creative shots and angles are used throughough the video, making it look as if it has a high budget due to it being well planned and executed.

A-ha!

This is a low budget music video by students but is made to look as if it has a high production budget due to elements of the product such as editing, mise en scene, camerawork.

Editing:

- Short takes are used throughout this music video to cut witht the beat and tempo of the song which makes it look like it has a higher budget as it is proffessionally edited and to the beat of the song.

- Filters are used in parts of the video to give effects and to be more visual. This makes the video look like it has a higher budget as it strays from the original footage to make it look more aesthetic.

Mise en scene:

  • Lighting
- Low key lighting is used in this video in order to appear more eerie to the audience. This makes the video look as if it has a high production budget as it creates a strong effect and mood which can typically be achieved with a big enough budget.

Camerawork:

Creative shots and angles are used throughough the video, making it look as if it has a high budget due to it being well planned and executed.

My ideas from this...

To make my low budget music video appear to have a higher budget I will:
- Use editing to a proffessional degree by using filters, short takes and cross cutting, such as in "A-ha!"
- Use expensive looking locations that would typically be seen in higher budget products, such as in "Just Got Paid"
- Use unique and creative camera angles and styles
