Director Profile - Shane Drake
From this research I have got some ideas to apply to my own music video. This means using some ideas that are different from other music videos but have a nice effect visually and fits in with the song. For example:
-Black and white filter effect, perhaps highlighting a certain colour
-Range of interesting camera angles and movements
-Using mise en scene to convey the "narrative" and messages to the audience in a creative way

Non-conventional Music Video: Send My Love - Adele
Send My Love - Adele
This video is unconventional as it breaks many conventions of music videos.
3 or more locations:
- This music video breaks this convention as the whole video is set in the same location of a black background, with no change in setting
Montage editing:
- This video breaks the convention of montage editing as it appears to be shot in one take as there are no clear cuts, and certainly no montage editing
- The video has elements of montage editing when layers of the artist are overlapped, however does not use the short takes typically used for montage editing
Dancing/playing instruments:
- The convention of dancing/playing instruments is broken in this Adele video as she is simply shown singing with some hand gestures, but not playing instruments or dancing
Range of camera movements/dynamics:
- This convention is broken as the camera stays in the same position with occasional differences between mid shots and close ups, but very subtly
Editing will cut to the beat:
- The video, as mentioned earlier, appears to be shot in one take with not many cuts, therefore the video does not cut to the beat of the song, besides with the chorus when the overlapped layers become visible
